In 1998, in a move to
guarantee regular safety inspections and reduce accidents, the Federal
government established a rigid schedule of inspections of Class
1, 2 and 3 tracks and related equipment according to strictly mandated
guidelines. Krostrac Lining Group can perform those inspections
according to the Code of Federal Regulations as issued by the U.S.
Department of Transportation, Federal Railroad Administration Ð
Department of Safety.
- For Class 1, 2 and
3 track on main track and sidings, the required frequency is:
Weekly with at least 3 calendar days interval between inspections
of before use, if the track is used less than once a week, or
twice weekly with at least 1 calendar day interval between inspections,
if the track carries passenger trains or more than 10 million
gross tons of traffic during the preceding calendar year.
- For Class 1, 2 and
3 on other than main track and sidings, the required frequency
is: Monthly with at least 20 calendar days interval between
inspections.
- Switches, track crossings,
lift rail assemblies and other transition devices on moveable
bridges are also subject to mandatory inspections.
